eyyy, must be the money!  Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., also known by the stage name, Nelly, is a popular American rapper, songwriter, and actor originally from Austin, Texas. With albums reaching sales of over 8.4 million, Nelly’s Net Worth sits at $60 million in 2020.

Early Life

Nelly, now 45-years-old, was born on November 2, 1974, in Austin, Texas. At the young age of seven his parents filed for divorce and he then relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where he began putting down roots in his musical career. In his teen years, he embarked into the music world by forming a band with some close friends and his half brother; the band was called the St. Lunatics. Working in conjunction with Midwest hip hop, this is where Nelly’s Net Worth began to spark. The band saw some local success with their 1997 single called Gimmie What Ya Got. Unfortunately, the band was unable to lock down any type of record deal so Nelly decided to take things up a notch and launch his solo career.

Career Beginnings

In 1999, Nelly’s Net Worth took a jump as he signed with Universal Records. In the year 2000, under Universal, his debut album, Country Grammar was released, featuring the popular tracks Ride Wit Me and Country Grammar, both making top 10 hits. Adding to Nelly’s Net Worth, this album was a career-high for him, as Country Grammar came in at number three on the Billboard 200 and eventually peaked at number one. Country Grammar is Nelly’s best-selling album to this day, selling over 8.4 million copies in the United States alone.

2002

Following the extremely popular album release in 2000, Nelly continued to make marks on the music world with the release of a second studio album - Nellyville. As another album to see extreme success, Nellyville topped the music charts and sold millions of copies all across the globe.

Not Stopping

At this point, Nelly knew he had to keep going. Another two years after the release of his second album, come 2004, Nelly was ready for another one to hit the charts, and that it did. The studio album Sweat was released in 2004 and was received in a positive light from music critics. It’s no surprise the album was another one to peak on the music charts in the United States and internationally. Just adding to Nelly’s Net Worth each year basically.

It was just one year after this that Nelly played the role of Earl Megget in the popular film, The Longest Yard. With Nelly’s popularity gaining traction and Nelly’s Net Worth on the rise, he took advantage of the wave he was riding and released a fifth studio album called Brass Knuckles

Television Show Appearances

After releasing a sixth studio album in the year 2010, Nelly’s Net Worth was upped after the single Just a Dream became a globally-recognized massive hit. It was also during 2010 that Nelly released Celebrity Sweat, a fitness-related DVD that also contributed to Nelly’s Net Worth. Shortly after this release, Nelly made multiple appearances on television shows, such as T.I and Tiny, The Family Hustle, and even some episodes from 90210. Overall, it was primarily big studio album release moments and these spontaneous television appearances that helped Nelly’s Net Worth become what it is today. In 2012, Nelly played himself on the reality television show, The Next: Fame Is At Your Doorstep.

Awards

With several top-selling studio albums and television appearances, it’s without a doubt Nelly’s Net Worth was supplemented by several awards. In 2003 and 2004, Nelly won Grammy Awards and had a supporting role in the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard with stars Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. He also appeared in four episodes of CSI New York in 2008 and 2009. Lastly, adding to his acting career, Nelly appeared in 39 episodes of Real Husbands of Hollywood between 2013 and 2016.

2020

The year 2020 has put a bit of a wrench on Nelly’s Net Worth due to the coronavirus pandemic, as he was originally supposed to perform Country Grammar at the 2020 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee. With Covid-19 on the rise, this past July of 2020, Nelly, Brad Paisley, and several other artists performed a distanced drive-in concert at the Hollywood Park Amphitheater. There are scheduled plans for Nelly to perform at the Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco in August of next year.

Personal Life

Aside from his musical and acting path, there are several factors that have contributed to Nelly’s Net Worth over the years. For example, his two clothing lines, Vokal and Apple Bottoms have been a popular source of revenue for the celebrity.

Believe it or not, Nelly is also quite the entrepreneur and investor. In March of 2003, he began a campaign and nonprofit organization called the 4Sho4Kids Foundation. The non-profit helps educate African Americans about the need for bone marrow transplants. Not only has this helped Nelly’s Net Worth, it has also raised awareness in several communities to get more people to register as bone marrow donors. This initiative was sparked after Nelly’s sister Jackie was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away in 2005.

The kind-hearted celebrity didn’t stop here. Starting in 2006 and to this day, Nelly continues to host St. Louis’ White and Black Ball in efforts to raise money for scholarships that allow kids to attend college.

Also contributing to Nelly’s Net Worth, he established a partnership in August of 2014 that is dedicated to Michael Brown after he was shot and killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri.

Adding to his passion for nonprofits, Nelly’s Net Worth saw growth after he filmed a public service announcement for the Tackle Hunger campaign, sponsored by nonprofit organization Do Something. Nelly’s overall goal with his announcement was to raise awareness and challenge teens to fight hunger by collecting 1 million pounds of food for the holiday season for families in need.

Real Estate

You know Nelly’s Net Worth is up there when you can recognize a home from the television show MTV Cribs. Nelly’s five-bedroom home near the Hidden Valley Country Club in St. Louis Missouri was featured on MTV Cribs back in 2002. Nelly then sold the house in 2010 for just under $750,000.

Charges and Other Legal Issues

Like many pop stars, Nelly’s Net Worth also has some legal situations involved. In 2015, Nelly’s tour bus was pulled over in Tennessee for possession of marijuana, handguns, and what the patrol thought was meth at the time. Because of this, Nelly was arrested and booked into the county jail. He was released on bail and charged with felony drug possession and several other minor charges. Nelly’s felony drug possession charge was dropped after patrol officials discovered the substance on the bus was not meth.
