ntroducing a new battle royale into the large list of 2020 titles, is a game that goes by the name of Spellbreak. Proletariat Inc. has released a special game created to compete with games such as Fortnite, Realm Royale, and Apex Legends. Weapons are swapped out for unique elemental powers, and players are dropped into a fantasy world with 41 other players.
What is Spellbreak?
Spellbreak is a third-person "shooter" battle royale game where where elemental powers and magic replaces the ever so popular, you guessed it, guns. The game is set in a fantasy world with plenty of classic Realm Royale-style villages and assets. Within the primary combat system there are six different gauntlets that you use to attack other players: Flame, Frost, Stone, Wind, Lightning and Toxic. As expected the end goal your squad strives for is to be the last ones standing.
Is Spellbreak Cross-Platform?
Spellbreak, like many other battle royale games (unfortunately not including Fall Guys) is cross-platform! Players can squad up with friends on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch to get that sweet victory. So don't worry, you can show off your new gear, you purchased with microtransactions, to your friends no matter console they are on.

Spellbreak has been released on September 3rd, 2020 for PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch as a free-to-play game.
What Is Unique About Spellbreak?
In Spellbreak, players can run, jump, levitate, dash, fly and teleport around opponents while trying to them with powerful elemental magic spells. Every gauntlet you hold has unique abilities which is complemented by different play styles. For example, the Frost Gauntlet works similar to a sniper, meanwhile the Flame Gauntlet is comparable to a shotgun with a secondary flame wall attack. What makes this game unique are the dynamics between gauntlets, especially while attacking alongside two squad mates. Certain elements can be coupled together to create devastating damage to the other players. For example, toxic attacks paired with flame attacks can cause huge explosions as combo attacks.
The map, Hollow Lands, feels big, and is full of chests and floor loot for players to pick up and use to their advantage. One of the types of floor loot, are magic runes that are basically buffs to increase powers for a short amount of time. These runes can also be paired with gauntlets to create massive damage. Much of this game is playing around with different rune/gauntlet combinations to create that play style that you enjoy mostly and helps you get that victory.
Should You Play Spellbreak?
With the gauntlet system, the game encourages a large variety of play styles which makes the game appealing to a larger audience. There's a lot of diversity within the gameplay which gives you many advantages and disadvantages. The map offers plenty of places to explore and loot so your squad can head into those mid to late game battles stocked up with runes and casts. The game is fun and fast-paced, the cel-shaded graphics are beautiful, the wins are rewarding, and the game is free-to-play on all systems. It's totally worth a try, especially at no cost, and the game only gets sweeter when you're playing alongside a couple friends.
